A Simple Guide to Growing Your Magic Mushrooms Part 2

A Simple Guide to Growing Your Magic Mushrooms Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 and consequently Phase 2 of our mushroom growing endeavor! We are just excited as you are here at Blue Buddha Canada to begin the next phase.

At this point, 15 days or so later, you would hopefully now have completely colonized your birthing cake.

Before beginning, you would need to prepare a different set of materials including:

  • Filtered water
  • A spray bottle
  • 3-percent hydrogen peroxide
  • Temperature and humidity gauge
  • Vermiculite to maintain the humidity of your growing chamber
  • A clear plastic container with a lid to serve as the fruiting chambers
  • Another clear plastic container with a lid but also with holes on either side to serve as a growing box

With all your materials in one place, you are now ready with step one of your phase 2 of cultivating your choice of magic mushroom strains in British Columbia.

  • The first step is to birth your cake which really is just getting your mycelium cakes out of the jar. Usually, this means banging the jar against your hand to get it out. Make sure to not touch it to avoid contamination.

Once out of the inoculation jar, fill the plastic containers with a lid but no holes that you prepared beforehand to the brim with filtered water. Soak them in and put them in your refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours.

  • The second step is to sterilize the container you are using as the growing box with a solution of bleach and boiling water as well as the lid of the jar you used for inoculation.

You must also sterilize your vermiculite using a mixture of 10 parts boiled water to one part hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle. Once you’re harvesting regularly, you would need to mist your vermiculite to keep it humid.

After the sterilization, you are now ready to place your cake into your bed of vermiculite. Make sure to put the lid of your inoculation jar beneath your cake before putting it in the bed.

Once in the bed, spritz your cake with your 10 parts boiled water to one part hydrogen peroxide mixture. Put the lid back on your growing box and place it in a room that is well-ventilated but which can still receive indirect sunlight.

  • The third and final step is to harvest. Wait for a month or so before harvesting. During this month, make sure to mist your magic mushrooms in Vancouver, British Columbia with your water and hydrogen mixture twice a day.

And just like growing premium cannabis indoors, make sure that there is a right balance of temperature and humidity. Maintain at least a humidity of 85% and a temperature of mid to low 70°F.

Once a month or so is up, simply snap them off the cake, and voila! You have just harvested your very first flush. Use them immediately or put them in an airtight container and refrigerate for later use.
