That said, if you are a first time premium cannabis or magic mushroom user, or even when it’s your first time eating edibles, it is always good to do your homework first.

So, what exactly is an edible? And what should you know about it before taking the plunge?

Here is a briefer to get you started:

  • What is edible?

An edible (or drinkable) is any food or beverage that has both THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) in it.

  • How long will it take for it to work?

The main draw to going for edibles instead of the more common ways of getting your dose is the duration it takes to feel the effects. Smoking a joint or vape pe will usually take longer, with edibles, you will be counting both as fast as 30 minutes to as long as 2 hours. The difference is due to the stops (your liver and digestive system) the THC has to make before being absorbed by the body compared to how smoke can immediately penetrate your bloodstream through your alveoli.

Of course, you also need to consider other factors such as the strength of your edibles, your weight, when your last meal was, and your very own metabolism and digestive processes.

  • What amount should I take first?

Your first dose must depend on your tolerance insofar as being a regular cannabis consumer.

We say 2.5 milligrams to 5 milligrams is a good number to start for those who are consuming edibles the first time. At this dose, you will feel calm and mildly euphoric—always a good feeling to build up to if you ask us.

If the dose works for you, no adverse effects happen, and you want to take it a notch higher, then you can work up to a full serving of 10 milligrams. This a standard for those who take edibles recreationally.

And while it is up to you what to try kind of edible to try first—brownies, cookies, candies, candies, and even ciders and juices, we encourage you to choose store-bought edibles first. This makes sure that these are regulated with the right dose.
